Vintage Furniture: Why It's Always in Style
Dieser Post ist von 16. Aug 2016 by Livarea.
Furniture from past decades is currently in vogue when it comes to home decor. The pieces of furniture show signs of wear, whether genuine or merely simulated. This popular interior design trend, which revives memories of the good old days, has a name: Vintage. But where does the term come from? And how can vintage furniture be harmoniously integrated into your home? Read more here.
Vintage Look: Characteristics and Origin
The term „Vintage“ comes from English and initially means, in plain German, nothing other than old or old-fashioned. When the term appears in connection with furniture, it specifically refers to objects from the 1920s to the 1970s. It means more than simply „old“. It refers to a living style whose furnishings show signs of wear and thus lend an individual touch to the home. This can include faded colours, worn surfaces, multiple layers of patina, and small scratches. Last but not least, the use of high-quality materials characterises the vintage look.

If you want to furnish your home with vintage furniture, you shouldn't overdo it. Otherwise, your room might end up looking like a museum. Almost always, a combination of vintage furniture and a modern piece works well. Pieces from multiple eras only harmonise if neither is dominant and they don't steal the show from each other. Ultimately, the rule is: you alone must like the decor. Furthermore, a high-quality vintage piece of furniture can withstand a lot because it has character.
Vintage Coffee Table: Attracting Attention
A coffee table enhances any seating area, stands at the centre of the living room, and thus draws all attention to itself. This makes it easy to create a warm and cosy atmosphere. However, the mix is important; that is, a vintage-look coffee table harmonises splendidly with modern furniture and home accessories, but can also be combined with furniture of other styles.

When entering a living room, the eye immediately falls upon the sofa. With a vintage sofa, you place a wonderful eye-catcher in the centre of the room. Signs of wear give the elegant piece of furniture its unique character and charm. Combinations with other style furniture, e.g., retro or colonial style, only then exert their appeal: The vintage couch thus becomes a striking eye-catcher in your own home. If cushions covered with classic vintage fabrics are added, the vintage look is perfect.

The bed is the king of the bedroom. Anyone who wants to furnish their bedroom cosily in vintage style starts with a vintage bed, which takes its place like a unique piece and harmonises with many bedrooms. A vintage bed – whether made of wood or metal – provides a touch of romance and, with its delicate, playful exterior, transports you into a dreamy mood.
