How to get your garden furniture ready for spring

Wooden patio furniture can show cracks or damage even with proper storage. First, subject the furniture to a thorough inspection. If it is lacquered furniture and touch-up work is necessary, the old lacquer must be thoroughly sanded off. Afterwards, remove the sanding dust from the furniture and re-lacquer it. Sand off rusty spots with very fine sandpaper and then treat the material with a rust preventative specifically suitable for metals and stainless steel. All moving parts should be carefully greased. If there are screws on the furniture, you should check them for tightness. If anything has loosened over the winter, they can simply be tightened with a suitable screwdriver. Important: if the screws are tightened too much, the mobility of the parts can be lost – so always tighten only "hand-tight" and never with force. After adjusting the screws, it should definitely be checked whether all parts can still move easily and without grinding.
