DIY Furniture vs. Shop-Bought: The Overlooked Differences You Need to Know
Dieser Post ist von 01. Apr 2016 by Livarea.
DIY is absolutely on-trend. DIY guides are popping up everywhere, inspiring the internet and the imagination of all individualists. Because doing it yourself means you can then proudly call a true one-of-a-kind piece your own. Some start with knitting, others sew their summer wardrobe, and those who value individual home furnishings build their own bedroom chest of drawers. As an alternative to a DIY chest of drawers, designer furniture is an option. We show you the advantages and disadvantages of both variants.
DIY: Do It Yourself versus Buying
Building your own bedroom chest of drawers is guaranteed to make you proud and happy. Browsing for a suitable chest of drawers among designer furniture might not boost your ego, but it's incredibly fun. The main reason DIY is trending is that more and more people long for something individual. Your home is an expression of your personality, and so your furniture should also match your own taste. But what if off-the-shelf furniture simply doesn't fit? Sometimes too few, sometimes too many drawers. Then the size, material, or colour don't match your ideas. The search for the right chest of drawers can be agonisingly long.

No wonder more and more people are getting the idea to get active with a hammer and cordless drill. If you opt for a DIY chest of drawers, you can determine the material, number of drawers, shape, and size of your chest of drawers yourself. Designer furniture can be a good alternative. Firstly, unlike off-the-shelf furniture, designer furniture isn't found in every home. Secondly, many manufacturers of designer furniture also offer the option to incorporate individual ideas. With an expert, you can also rely on experience and know-how. Building design furniture yourself is quite a big challenge. However, individual home furnishings can be conveniently ordered.

Realistically estimating the time commitment for a DIY bedroom chest of drawers is not exactly easy. New challenges can always arise. You might not have paid attention when cutting the boards, the painting might have failed, or the ordered drawer bases might suddenly not be deliverable. Building the drawers of a chest of drawers yourself, in particular, can go quite wrong. As a DIYer, you should prepare for all eventualities. Also, for your efforts not bearing fruit at all, and ultimately having to buy a chest of drawers for the bedroom anyway. When doing it yourself, you also need to consider that additional costs will arise.

To build a DIY chest of drawers for the bedroom, it's not enough to buy the right materials; you also need tools and machinery. An expensive purchase if you're not already well-equipped with tools. Self-built furniture is therefore not necessarily cheaper than designer furniture. If you order your furniture from a designer, however, you must expect a certain delivery time. The advantage of designer furniture is that it is guaranteed to look exactly as it is presented to you. With a self-built chest of drawers, there's a good chance you'll have to make compromises and live with one or two imperfections in your DIY home furnishings.

If you have plenty of time and a bit of skill, you can try your hand at DIY furniture and build your own bedroom chest of drawers. If, however, you're all thumbs and would prefer to rely on the experience and expertise of a professional, yet still don't want to forgo customisation options, then designer furniture is a good choice. Both the DIY and designer options allow scope for individual ideas.
